Become a member of Machiavelli

With over 1800 members and a history dating back to 1964, Machiavelli is the oldest and largest study association for political science students in the Netherlands. Because of its history and size, Machiavelli is able to offer a wide variety of activities, ranging from debates and study trips, to parties and weekly drinks (borrels) and interesting excursions to places of relevance.

As a member, you have access to all the events and activities we organize. Furthermore, all members receive a discount on their study books and (exam) trainings provided by tentamentrainingen.nl. Machiavelli offers its members the opportunity to evolve in things like the organisation of events or writing, by joining one of its committees.

Machiavelli also partners up with other political science and public administration associations by sharing best practices and organizing events together. The General Assembly is the highest power within Machiavelli, but the association is run by a board that consists of seven board members. This board commits themselves to the association for one year and is responsible for the organisation of a variety of events and trips, for keeping up with its associations' finances and administration and for maintaining the association's external relations.

Automatic payment membership fee

Machiavelli membership costs 10 EUR per year. The collection of membership fees happens in accordance with the new SEPA-regulations. We will inform you when the membership fee will be collected.

When the money is collected from your bank account, you have a cancellation period (storneringstermijn) of 56 days, you can use this if you think the membership fee is unfairly collected. The treasurer will verify all cancellations. If you think the money is unfairly collected, send a mail to treasurer@svmachiavelli.nl

As part of your rights, you are entitled to a refund from your bank under the terms and conditions of your agreement with your bank. A refund must be claimed within 8 weeks starting from the date on which your account was debited. Your rights are explained in a statement that you can obtain from your bank. 

The membership fee will be collected until you terminate your membership.

Termination of membership

Membership continues until termination. Your membership does not terminate automatically. Membership can only be terminated in writing by sending an email with your name, student number and email address to secretary@svmachiavelli.nl. After your request, you will receive a confirmation to complete the termination of your membership. Termination of membership for the fiscal/association year has to be done before August 1st at the latest in order to not be charged for the following fiscal/association year of membership. If you terminate your membership after August 1st you are obliged to pay the membership fee for the following fiscal/association year.

International student with no IBAN bank account number?

To fill in the form below, you need a valid IBAN bank account number. Don't have a IBAN? Please contact us by sending an email to secretary@svmachiavelli.nl. Include in this email the following information: student number, first and last name, date of birth, gender, email address, phone number, address of your current home and your international bank account number. You will receive a confirmation once your subscription to is complete!
